Café Alta Gracia: Spreading Grace through Sustainability

WHAT IS SPECIALTY COFFEE?

"Specialty" is the designation that ensures consistent premium quality of the coffee in your cup. Reaching specialty level first requires an environment capable of growing a high-quality coffee bean.

Finca Alta Gracia is a 60-acre farm in the Dominican Republic on the slopes of Pico Duarte, the highest (3087 meters) mountain in the Caribbean. Volcanic soil, cool nights, warm sun filtered by shade trees and gentle rains all combine to produce the best of Arábica coffee.

But coffee on the branch is still a long way from your cup. Dozens of opportunities exist to ruin a great raw product. Our land, coffee plants, and ripe cherries are cared for by workers who have grown up tending coffee. Everything is done by hand: from picking through the delicate processes of depulping, fermenting/washing, sun drying and sorting. Skill, experience and loving attention to detail are essential to guarantee that only top-grade beans are bagged for export and end up in your cup.
